Forecasting Class with Tim Vasquez

SOLD OUT

Months may have passed since your last chase intercept, but you can get back up to speed and ready for the ChaserCon with a Mesoanalysis Special Training Course, Friday, February 12, 2010, at 8pm. Class price only $28.00!

This special session will be taught by Tim Vasquez, a former Air Force meteorologist from Norman, Oklahoma. Tim runs the Stormtrack website, is the author of the Storm Chasing Handbook and a number of forecast book titles, and is a writer for Weatherwise magazine.

This three-hour course teaches key principles of of severe weather forecasting and provides excellent groundwork for the convention's Saturday and Sunday sessions. From 8 to 9 pm we will cover the fundamentals of sounding and hodograph analysis, one of Tim's most requested training areas, giving a thorough working knowledge of SKEW-T diagrams, hodographs, and instability. From 9 to 10 pm we will go over all the latest techniques in mesoanalysis, diagnosis, and storm forecasting. From 10 to 11 pm we will allow attendees to participate in an interactive chase day forecast simulation.

Attendees are welcome to attend any hour or all three and the location will be in a designated conference room at the Red Lion Hotel. The course is suitable for beginners who want a crash course in storm forecasting, as well as advanced chasers who want a refresher before taking in Saturday's ChaserCon sessions.

Word from Tim Vasquez is that the class will now be held from 8-11pm on Friday. This is as early as we can set it without interfering with the scheduled icebreaker. If a registrant can't attend the new time, they are welcome to contact Tim at www.weathergraphics.com to arrange a refund.

Tim will be personally e-mailing each registrant over the next couple of days to advise them of the change, and will probably provide some preparatory materials and suggestions too.

Just to answer the questions that have appeared so far:

PREREQUISITES -- No prerequsites are needed. It is recommended you know a little of the basics of forecasting since this is an intermediate level class. But if you find meteorological sections of the chaser conference, NSWW, and so forth enjoyable then this should not be a problem. We won't be going into any overly technical areas.

CLASS TIMES -- Regarding the earlier class time, I am driving in myself and would prefer the earlier time too. I should have definite word this week on what the class time will be and will e-mail everyone already registered. I had been working on this but a lot of things were forgotten during the Christmas rush.

PAYPAL -- We are using Paypal as our gateway, and they do take Visa, Mastercard, or Paypal. There is a button that says "Check Out With Paypal" on the first page of the shopping cart, which you can use. If this doesn't work, go to weathergraphics.com/contact and send me an e-mail with a description of steps that you followed and I'll see what's going on.

Nine to Midnight is too late for these old bones. I hope this class moves to an earlier time or else it will be a no-go for me!

Hello,
I was wondering if you need any kind of previous experience to attend this mesoanalysis seminar, or if it is open to everyone. ??

Hello:

I'm planning to sign up and concur that a 7pm to 10pm timeframe would work best for me.

Thanks,

Rick R.

I've tried to sign up for this class, but instead of using my Paypal funds, it wants me to enter a credit card??? Why does it want my user name and password when it is not even going to use the money that is already there? Thanks for the help.

Thanks for looking at the possibility of adjusting the time! Many of us have a long day of traveling on Friday (500+ miles of driving for me) and Saturday is a long (but fun) day...so a 9 to midnight class is a bit of a stretch. Last year, the icebreaker was in full swing form 6-7pm, but began to wind down after that. So perhaps a 7-10pm class would work out good...

- Bryan

The class was set at 9 pm so as not to conflict with the Friday night icebreaker. I will ask Roger and my existing signups what they prefer. Personally I'm totally ok with adjusting the start time, but let me check around.

Last-minute signups are fine on a space available basis. We do recommend signing up as early as possible though since there are only a finite number of seats. I'll post a note if it looks like we're getting tight.

Tim, I would love to attend this class...but is there any way to move it up earlier? 7pm would be great! --Bryan

Am I correct to understand this is a friday night (till 11pm) class?... that makes a early saturday :)

Tim can take last-minute attendees as long as they arrive before 8:55 pm so that payment can be settled. However, seats are guaranteed only to those who register online before the class date.

If we fill up for some reason then last-minute registrations would be standing room only.

Will we be able to book the class on arrival to the Convention? Or is it all based on online reservations? Is there a "cut off" date where you have to apply by?
