ChaserCon History

What started as a small yearly gathering of friends has become a large national convention.

Many years ago, Tim Samaras invited a few friends over to his home for a "beer and pizza" party on a cold January evening. The purpose of this fateful night was to watch storm videos and visit about the upcoming storm chasing season.

This evolved into the Denver Chaser Convention and eventually into what would become ChaserCon, organized by Mr. Samaras and Roger Hill.

Today, the National Storm Chaser Convention has become a major event attracting storm chasers and weather enthusiasts from all over the world. The three-day event is typically held in February in beautiful Denver, CO.

The convention has featured many great presenters through the years, including Dr. Greg Forbes, Dr. Steve Lyons, Dr. Jack Bevin, Dr. Joshua Wurman, Tim Marshall, Dr. Howie Bluestein, Jon Davies, Rich Thompson, Shawna Davies, and many more.

In 2006, during -15 degree temperatures, the power went out at the motel. After about 30 minutes, power was restored and the convention continued.

In 2009, SKYWARN classes were added to the weekend agenda, giving participants the opportunity to take basic and advanced storm spotting classes while at the convention.

The convention continues to have the Saturday night video night where participants can show off video from their past severe weather season.

We invite you to join us in Denver and help celebrate another year of this great event.
